Carnelian is iron held in chalcedony, its color banded by whatever the stone was sitting in as it hardened. That record predates the necklace by a long measure. Three oval beads carry it here, faceted so the light cuts across the banding: deep russet running to amber, a paler cloud caught inside each one. Strung on a soft leather cord, worn by hand before it reached us. This is a one of one, vintage. No other will carry these three stones, this banding, this order.
It sits at the collarbone as a single statement, three stones doing all the work, nothing else needed at the neck. Store it flat, away from harder chains that can nick the leather. No water, no chemicals. A dry cloth is the whole plan.
