Wood doesn't take the same grain twice. These oval beads were turned from a warm walnut-brown timber, the grain still running dark through each one, no two figured alike. Between them sit low discs of a deeper wood and small beads of speckled green serpentine stone, olive going to moss. Someone strung them once, by hand, and never repeated it. One of a kind. The only one.
It sits high at the base of the throat, the big beads carrying the weight and the green catching between them. Store it flat and dry, away from anything that knocks the wood. No water, no chemicals. A dry cloth is the whole plan.
