Shallow and wide, so rings stay findable and a watch lies flat beside them. Pull the plum out once more somewhere in the room — dried stems, a book spine, a cushion — and the whole palette tightens around it. Set it near a lamp: onyx is translucent at this thickness, and the caramel warms from inside when the light comes in low from the side.
Bands sweep across the interior in wide concentric rings, irregular enough to read closer to wood grain than to stripes. Plum and burgundy veins cut across them. Thin white quartz seams run through the body in bright lines — those are healed fractures, places where the stone broke underground and mineral water refilled the gap. The carver left the surface raw, so the tool travel stays visible. One of a kind. The exact piece you'll receive.

STRATA — Single-source Balochistan onyx, hand-carved, finished in San Diego.
VEIN — Tobacco and caramel banding in concentric rings, plum and burgundy veins across the interior, white quartz seams throughout, pale grey at the foot.

- Sealed in beeswax. No resins, no dyes.
- Raw finish — matte, with the tool marks left in rather than polished out.
- The white quartz seams are healed fractures in the stone, not damage to the piece. They were not filled or hidden.
- Wipe dry; keep out of standing water.

Onyx is assigned in crystal practice to the root chakra and kept for grounding and protection. We report the tradition; we don't claim it.
Layered stone like this is the reason cameo carving exists. A carver cuts down through one band into the one beneath, and the image appears in a second color without a drop of pigment. Rome built an entire portrait art on that principle. The bands you are looking at are the same mechanism, left uncut.
ORIGIN
Carved by master hands on Mehrgarh-adjacent ground, among the oldest making-grounds on Earth. Finished in San Diego, with no shortcut that trades honesty for shine — the raw surface and the visible seams are both decisions. The strata occurs once. Earth, unobscured.

Each piece is sealed with food-grade beeswax. Refresh every 6 to 12 months by warming a small amount of oil or wax into the surface, then buffing gently with a soft cloth.
