the finer details
Umber runs the outer edge, dark to nearly black at the top, and the bands pale inward through gray to a still dove center. The base is cut flat so it stands on its own, without a stand or a plate. This is the one you get.
Dark at the rim and quiet in the middle, so it reads as a shape first and a stone second.
STRATA · VEIN · WEIGHT
STRATA — Natural agate, cut with a flat base and polished across the face; the rind left raw at the edge.
VEIN — Umber to near-black at the outer edge, gray banding inward, a fine white line closing on a dove-gray center.
WEIGHT — Solid stone, no hollow. It takes a whole hand to lift. 1 lb

Each piece is sealed with food-grade beeswax. Refresh every 6 to 12 months by warming a small amount of oil or wax into the surface, then buffing gently with a soft cloth.

Onyx forms in slow, mineral-rich pockets underground — layers laid down over thousands of years. Each slab is split once, then carved by hand, which is why no two pieces share the same ribboning.
We keep the walls thin so light passes through when the piece sits on a window ledge.
