The exact pair you'll receive. Before it was a place to end a row of books, this was a hollow in volcanic rock that filled in over ages — band after band of grey and blue settling around a mouth of white quartz. The warm brown rind is the outside of that pocket, left exactly as the stone wore it. Cut in two, the halves hold the same crystal heart facing each other. Dove grey deepens to slate at the bands; the quartz center catches light like broken sugar. One of a kind. The exact pair you'll receive.

Stand them cut-face out at either end of a shelf; the raw brown edge reads as well from the side as the crystal does from the front. Weighty enough to keep a full row upright. Dust with a dry cloth; keep out of standing water.

Grown inside old volcanic rock over a stretch of time no hand can hold. Cut once and polished by hand, the brown rind left where the stone met the world. The strata occurs once. Earth, unobscured.
