This pair was one such stone, cut once and opened to face itself. Around a rough grey rind, white quartz crystal breaks toward a struck violet heart — the loudest note in the set. Grown band over band inside old volcanic rock, over a stretch of time no hand can hold. Cut once and polished by hand, the grey rind left where the stone met the world. The strata occurs once. Earth, unobscured.
