one of one
Every piece is hand-carved from raw stone. Veining, color, translucency — no two are identical. The piece you receive is the only one of its kind.

This is the pale one, and pale onyx does something the darker stones cannot. At this thickness it passes light. Set it near a window or beside a lamp and the walls go from cream to lit honey, the apricot patches warming first. On a dark surface it reads as a solid object. In morning light it reads as a lantern that happens to be a box. One of one. The exact piece you'll receive.
That makes it the piece for a light room — a white bathroom counter, a pale dresser, a shelf near a window — where a darker stone would sit as a heavy spot you have to work around. This one belongs to the palette instead of interrupting it. Give it a little clear space and let the light do the rest.
Inside it takes the things you would rather not leave out. Rings, earrings between wearings, a key, a folded note. Honey and cream across the lid, a soft apricot blush at one corner of the body, a fine amber band running the stepped base. Almost no drama in it — this is onyx at its quietest, where the banding reads as a gradient rather than a stripe. The lid sits by weight. The pull is a square of pale onyx set into the top. One of a kind. The exact piece you'll receive.
STRATA — Single-source Balochistan onyx, hand-carved, finished in San Diego.
VEIN — Honey and cream through the lid and body, a soft apricot blush at one corner, fine amber banding along the stepped base. Translucent at the walls.
WEIGHT — 2 lb of onyx.
Onyx is assigned in crystal practice to the root chakra and kept for grounding and protection. We report the tradition; we don't claim it.
The reason a person can carve this by hand is that it is soft. Banded calcite sits at about 3 on the mineral hardness scale — a steel blade will mark it. That softness is why stone vessels appear in the archaeological record before metal tools do, and why the carving is still done the old way. Had it been hard, it would have had a different history entirely.
Carved by master hands on Mehrgarh-adjacent ground, among the oldest making-grounds on Earth. Finished in San Diego, with no shortcut that trades honesty for shine. The strata occurs once. Earth, unobscured.

Onyx forms in slow, mineral-rich pockets underground — layers laid down over thousands of years. Each slab is split once, then carved by hand, which is why no two pieces share the same ribboning.
We keep the walls thin so light passes through when the piece sits on a window ledge.

No two pieces alike. No factory finish. Just raw onyx, hand-carved by artisans in Balochistan and finished in our San Diego studio.
