A raw, unpolished amethyst stone on a black cord reads best next to something sharp — an open blazer with nothing under it, a shirt unbuttoned one past where you would normally stop. The contrast is the whole idea. At seventeen inches the cord sits high on the chest, just under the collarbone, so it stays visible inside an open collar instead of disappearing down a neckline. Black cord on bare skin, or black on black. If you layer, put a longer chain beneath it and let this one sit closest to the throat.

The pendant is amethyst as it came out of the ground. Unpolished faces, a broken base, the purple deepening toward the tip where the color concentrated as the crystal grew. Nothing was cut or shaped. It hangs from a plain bail with no cage and no setting, because the stone does not need help.

Amethyst is assigned in crystal practice to the third-eye and crown chakras and kept for clarity and intuition. It is the February birthstone. We report the tradition; we don't claim it.

The name is Greek — amethystos, "not intoxicated." The Greeks carved wine cups from it believing the stone would keep a drinker sober, and it stayed priced alongside ruby and emerald until the Brazilian deposits opened in the nineteenth ce ntury. Raw like this is how it left the pocket, before anyone decided it needed faceting.
